El juego es una versión mejorada del título Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams lanzado años atrás en Wii U y diversas plataformas.

Cabe mencionar que en un principío, el primer juego lanzado de la franquicia The Great Giana Sisters allá por 1987, tuvo muchas similitudes con el primer Super Mario Bros. de 1985.
